Diamond Days written and performed by Chris Jenkins and Pieter Hulst for the cameras and a single microphone at GC6 HQ. Camera by Bianca Tuckwell Jenkins and Ben Anderson Dixon. shot on 5DMKII. Kind words from S A Bryan-Merrett of CDCLifestyle.com upon discovering SLR: “Actually just stumbled across this curiously relaxed gem of a track via a friend’s Facebook page and have subsequently listened to it at least 4 times on the trot and can honestly say it’s definitely a grower. Having delved a little deeper I found that the Shooting Lead Rabbits is essentially a musical outlet for artist and singer/songwriter Christopher Jenkins, who performs and records with a relatively loose consortium of collaborators. His self-titled debut album was written and produced Vocally, Jenkins is a beautifully gracious songwriter with his smooth catchy lyrics under-pinned with an organic earthiness, which somehow (quite precariously) contain the poignance and realness of his words. All-in-all, a rather weird and wonderful musical combination set somewhere between The Kinks and Gomez, which is without doubt a fine place to be sitting. Definitely one to watch out for!” S A Bryan-Merrett Original Post on CDCLifestyle.com http://cdclifestyle.com/posts/2011/07/10/shooting-lead-rabbits-tea-toast-bed/ Atenção! I Knew They’d Find Me”. Translation: Attention! I invite you to listen to the opening track “Big Top”, and can you believe that this London band has only 61 listeners registered at Lastfm in the whole world (??!!!). Seriously speaking, since the good times of The Crystal lake, I had never heard a band with such a concise debut Album, but at the same time so few listeners!? Although “Big top” unconsciously emulates parts of “Sing for Absolution”, the track is of great quality and it appeals for the more acute and demanding listeners. The second track of the album provides an “alt-country” tone ( Wilco used to do that very well at the beginning of this decade), and when one thinks that the album will become boring, they come up with “Twelve Ball”, “Tea Toasted Bed”, “This Town” and “I knew They’d Find Me”. SLR has made a very interesting album where a jam-session feeling prevails, and throughout which the strong and striking voice of Chris Jenkins produces beautiful melodies. Great album! |
